Our Story

Located in the Metro Atlanta area, Smok’n “BUTTS” BBQ is a owner operated fully licensed and insured mobile unit specializing in pulled pork, ribs and brisket, catering BBQ and Soul Food.

HOW IT ALL BEGAN

Derrick started barbecuing as a hobby years ago for family functions. Over the years he perfected his own “Secret Recipe” to what we ALL have come to know as “THE BEST” barbecue in the world.  Flam’n Hot right off the grill….no barbecue sauce needed.  Although no barbecue sauce is needed, he was given a “Family Recipe” for homemade barbecue sauce that is mouthwatering DELICIOUS! 

So the requests began to flow…as the word began to spread of this awesome BBQ with Derrick on the grill and Stacey in the kitchen whipping up those scrumptious sides.  We’ve catered various events for many family members and friends over the years and wrestled with the thought of making this our family business.   We talked about it over and over again but thought...”no, we don't have time for that” ...”it will be to hard” ...” that’s too much work” …” How would we do it?” …” we would have too many headaches and stress”.  So the idea slowly drifted to the back of our minds but we inevitably found ourselves continuously “doing what we do” and that is selflessly fulfilling the growing requests, perfecting the selections of entrees and providing the best possible service to others. 

Well, God apparently had a plan for us to carry out this endeavor. Throughout 2016, we received confirmation after confirmation to move forward and stop making excuses.   One day while driving into work, Stacey started thinking about business names, the puzzling question kept rising up “If we did this business, what would we call it?”  Stacey came up with a name, created a business flyer and saved it on the computer.  However, for months the name did not set right in her spirit so, she did not move forward with it, she decided she would wait on God and move forward when God revealed the right business name to her.  Months went by; we continued to cater meals here and there for various fundraisers and community events.  One event in particular, was a pivotal turning point, a dear friend of the family passed away, so to help lift a burden from the family, we took on the task to prepare the repast meal for 250 to 300 guests.  It turned out to be a great blessing and it was at this point that we realized with GOD’s help, we could do this business with sweat-less victory, no stress and love every minute of it!  We were still waiting on God to reveal the name of the business; however, we began to see the vision GOD placed before us.  We kicked our faith into high gear and decided to JUMP, in late October 2016, God revealed the name Smok'n "BUTTS" BBQ.  We realized even more, that God had been making provisions that we could not see for ourselves, to establish this business all along.

We know God has placed us in this position to be business owners and to be a blessing to all we come in to contact with.  Philippians 4:19 declares it all over our lives.   Through the process of establishing this business, we’ve felt no pressure, anxiety or stress.  Things are falling right into place.  God teaches us to trust and rely on him completely, because He alone is our provider.
